5 things every phone owner needs to know about their Blue Cross NC health insurance

5 things every phone owner needs to know about their Blue Cross NC health insurance

We can do just about anything from our mobile phones.  We can order a pizza, control our TVs, and budget. Our phones serve as navigators, cameras, and fitness trackers. Don’t even get me started on the voice assistant features.

Our phones play a big part in our lives. They also play a significant role in our health.

At Blue Cross NC, we provide our customers with the tools and resources needed to help them make the best decisions for themselves and their families. These tools make it easier than ever for you to access information and services when and where you need them.

Here’s where you can find health insurance info from your mobile phone:

1. Blue Connect. Yes, there’s an app for that.

Our Blue Connect mobile app has many additional features, beyond what you’ve come to expect from an insurance provider. Whether you need to access your digital ID card or you’re looking to search the costs of a procedure at different facilities – we’ve got you covered.

See all the easy-to-use tools in our Blue Connect mobile app:

  • View your benefits, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and even spending account balance(s).
  • Search and browse pending and processed claims
  • Quickly access customer service, through both click-to-call and in-app Secure Messaging.
  • Learn more about your prescription medicines.

Download the free Blue Connect app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to create your account. You can also visit Blue Connect on your desktop.

2. Find care that’s right for you with our Find a Doctor tool

Search for a provider near you with Find a Doctor.

To use the tool, you will need to log in to Blue Connect app. The app will show you information associated with your plan.

With the Find a Doctor tool, you can find care quickly – whether it’s an urgent care facility or dentist.  Search by names, location, or specialty.

You can even search for costs of procedures at different facilities and read reviews. It’s crucial to visit in-network doctors or hospitals to save the most money on your medical and wellness care.

A bonus for you. We also have Find a Drug tool. Whether you need information about a prescription drug or pharmacy services, this tool allows you to search our database. You’ll need your ID card handy to be directed to the right section.

3. Registered nurses are just one call away with Health Line Blue

Free nurse support 24/7. Yes, please.

Health Line Blue connects our members to registered nurses who can answer questions until they can see a doctor. Our nurses can also answer questions about medications and give you information to help you make better health decisions. There’s no charge for this service, and you can get professional advice any time you need it.

The phone number for Health Link Blue is on the back of your ID card. You can also call 1-877-477-2424. (Go ahead and add this to your contacts.)

4. Video chat with a doctor 24/7 via telehealth. No appointment needed.

You video chat with friends and family near and far. What about video chatting with a doctor? With telehealth, you can make it happen.

Telehealth benefits typically include evaluations and consultations for common health conditions and provider-to-provider consultations.

Members who receive health insurance through their employer and qualify for this benefit can speak to a board-certified doctor or pediatrician through secure, online video consults on their mobile phone, tablet, or computer.

The video chats are an excellent option for minor health issues and non-emergencies when members can’t get in to see their regular doctor.

Video consultations are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. An appointment is not needed.

Telehealth does not replace your primary care doctor. It’s just an easier way to get care for common health problems. Telehealth has the potential to make health care more available, convenient and affordable.

Does this sound like something you could use? If so, be prepared. Don’t wait until you need telehealth to create and activate an account. Here’s how.
